Trading of well-known securities often takes place on formal exchanges, which are large institutions that follow a series of rules for helping to assure an active market, liquidity of assets traded and robust supply and demand. Trading, however, can also take place on the alternative "over-the-counter" market, or OTC.

Trading Activity in Global Over-the-Counter Markets We study how intermediation and asset prices in over-the-counter markets are affected by illiquidity associated with search and bargaining. We compute explicitly the prices at which investors trade with each other as well as marketmakers' bid and ask prices in a dynamic model with strategic agents.
